Counselling is sometimes called ‘talking therapy’ and it lets you discuss your thoughts and feelings.  It's a process people seek when they are distressed or anxious and would like some help to deal with these feelings. When you feel ready I will encourage you to share your worries with me and I am there to listen. Together we will work to find ways that feel right for you to live the life you need.

Initially when you contact me, we'll have a chat on the phone about counselling and what you feel you may need. We'll agree a time that's convenient to you for the first session and this can either be face to face in my Covid compliant practice, online or by telephone.

You may feel that one session is enough to get something of your chest, or short,  medium or long term sessions may benefit you more. Therapy can be life changing and self-empowering, bringing about changes and an understanding of yourself and others to enhance your life. Giving yourself time to explore will be beneficial to you achieving what you need.

I'm an integrated and person centred therapist.  I work with a number of models, therapies and styles to suit your individual needs and requirements. Below is a brief explanation of what these are and how they can help:

  • Psychodynamic - To bring the unconscious mind into consciousness - helping individuals to unravel, experience and understand their true, deep-rooted feelings in order to resolve them.

  • Gestalt - Gestalt therapy is a here and now type of approach that focus's on a person's current experience and the therapeutic relationship as well as the environmental and social contexts of a person's life

  • Person Centred- This style is based on the belief that each person has within them the skill to heal in their own way and so allows the person to lead therapy.

  • Transactional Analysis - If you are struggling with how other people in your life are making you feel then therapy around relationships and your functioning in them can help you make necessary changes 

  • CBT - Based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in

  • Mindfulness - Is reconnecting with our bodies and the sensations they experience. This means waking up to the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the present moment and being aware of our thoughts and feelings as they happen moment to moment.

  • NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) - We form our unique internal mental maps of the world as a product of the way we filter and perceive information absorbed through our five senses from the world around us. Understanding and changing these can influence positive change.

  • Hypnotherapy -  There any many myths about hypnotherapy, but it's a normal state of mind. It's relaxing and rewarding,  achieves great results and works by accessing your subconscious mind to make positive suggestions. This is achieved by getting into a deeply relaxed state using relaxation techniques. A deepening visualisation takes you even deeper into relaxation.When you’re in a deeply relaxed state, your subconscious is more responsive to suggestions than if you were in a fully conscious state.

    The suggestion words used in hypnotherapy channels directly to the subconscious, where it effortlessly modifies behaviours or beliefs to produces a positive effect or action. After the suggestion work is complete you are gently brought back into full consciousness. 
    Throughout this process you remain fully in control and can wake up at any time. It's a natural state of mind and is not harmful.
